Behind every happy airport picture is a heart quietly breaking, a tear held back, and a chapter being closed.
When we moved from India to Sydney, we were full of hope and excitement. The idea of new opportunities, new experiences, and a new life felt like a dream waiting to unfold. But along with that excitement came a deep sadness, we left behind everything familiar: our family, friends, memories, and a way of life that had shaped us.
Leaving home is never easy. It’s not just about changing your location, it’s about stepping into the unknown. It’s about starting again — building a life from scratch, finding new routines, making new friends, understanding a whole different culture. And while doing all this, your heart always keeps a space reserved for those you left behind.
But with time, something beautiful happens. You grow.
You start seeing the world differently. You learn things you never imagined. And most importantly, you start building a new kind of family — one made of friendships, kindness, and shared struggles.
Australia taught me many things.
That people are different — yes — but deep down, we all want the same things: love, respect, peace, and connection.
That no one is perfect — but everyone carries a story.
That it’s not about comparing cultures, but about learning from each one.
You see what you choose to see in others. Every culture, every person has strengths and flaws — just like we all do. What makes a difference is how you choose to respond. That’s where your own growth lies.
Looking back, I know this journey wasn’t easy. But I wouldn’t trade it. It gave me strength I didn’t know I had. It gave me two homes — one where I was born, and one where I’ve grown.
To anyone who’s walked this path, you’re not alone. We may be far from home, but we carry it within us — in our values, our memories, our hearts.
And that is something no distance can take away. 💛
With love,
Anu
